Questions, answered plainly

What Northwest Arkansas homeowners ask before they call a gutter crew.

These are the questions that come up on the driveway: how long a cleaning takes, whether guards mean the end of cleaning, how a buried drain gets cleared. If your question is about guards in particular, the gutter guards page goes further. If you are ready for numbers on your own house, the free estimate takes a couple of minutes.

Yes, fully insured. Chappell carries a biBERK workers' compensation policy that protects the crew if someone is hurt on the job, and a Next Insurance general liability policy that covers your property if anything is damaged while we work.

Gutter cleaning

What a visit includes, how long it runs and what it costs.

Yes. The crew cleans gutters one, two and three levels up every day, working from ladders or from the roof depending on the house.

Both, depending on the home and the project. Rooftop blow-off is part of the Basic Cleanout.

It depends on the size of the building. A small building can take 45 minutes, and a large one can take up to 5 hours.

Yes. Debris haul-away is $6 per bag. After-service cleanup is also offered, so the beds and walkways are left tidy.

The Basic Cleanout starts at $109 and covers debris removal, a downspout snakeout, tightening gutters to the home, rooftop blow-off and the cleanup afterward. The Flush + Seal package starts at $169 and adds a gutter flush and a seam reseal, which suits homes with leaks and gutter guards. Details are on the gutter cleaning page.

Repairs and overflow

Leaks, loose runs, downspouts that let go and gutters that spill over.

The usual causes are a clog, a missing splash guard, or a gutter that was hung with the wrong slope. All of them are fixable, and a cleaning visit includes a look at the whole system so we can tell you which one it is.

Yes. Chappell does spot resealing and a full system flush and reseal. Both help the gutters last longer and protect the fascia, siding, foundation and ground cover from water damage.

Yes. Downspouts pulling away from the house and gutters are common after time and big storms. The crew reattaches them, or replaces them with new downspouts when the old ones are past saving.

On older homes the fascia is often damaged before new gutters go up, and that can lead to structural problems if it is ignored. The crew is trained to fix those issues before installing new gutters, so tell us about any soft or rotted boards on the estimate request.

Underground drains

The buried pipe the downspouts empty into.

Underground downspouts, driveway channel drains, pool channel drains and residential French drains.

With a method called jetting: shooting high-pressure water through the drain to break up buildup and flush the system. It is $20 per downspout when added to a gutter cleaning.

Without gutter guards, about once every 5 years. With guards, about every 10. Leaves, sticks and shingle grit wash down the downspout and settle in the buried pipe, and a clog left long enough can mean replacing the line instead of clearing it.

Gutter guards

What they do, what they do not, and how guarded gutters get cleaned.

No. That is the biggest misconception about guards. Small bits of debris get through and compact over time, so we recommend a gutter flush every 5 to 10 years on guarded gutters. We also don't recommend guards on gutters near pine trees, because needles pile up on top and inside, and pulling every guard to clean them costs more than regular cleanings.

A powder-coated, self-locking aluminum guard made by Armor Lock. It is durable, reduces buildup and makes it easy to troubleshoot and flush every 5 to 10 years. No guard is perfect, and they all keep large debris out without being a complete fix.

Two ways. One is to remove every guard, scoop out the debris and reinstall the guards. The other is to flush the gutters with a jetter, with no need to pull the guards. The flush is the preferred method because it costs less and does a better job, but it can only be done in the summer. In winter the crew will most likely need a partial or full removal and reinstall of the guards.

Gutter whitening

Brightening the outsides of the gutters and the fascia board.

By pressure washing the exterior of the gutters.

It removes buildup and discoloration from the visible areas of the gutters and the fascia board. As a cleaning add-on it starts at $79 and is recommended about every 5 years.
